Chris Matthews Has a "Come to Jesus" Moment

Chris Matthews voted for George Witless Bush and now he says this:

Crooks and Liars: "MATTHEWS: It's all ideology with this crowd. All they care about is ideology. The President bought it, hook, line and sinker. He had but you know, it was just put into his head, some time after 9-11, and his philosophy is what he has given it. He didn't have to have any philosophy when he went in, and they handed it to him. These guys the guys you know, the guys that you used to make fun of at school pencil necks, the intellectuals, the guys you never trusted. All of the sudden, he trusts the intellectuals, the guys you knew at school, yeah, they're a bunch of pencil necks and now he buys completely their ideology, because he didn't have one of his own coming in. That was his problem. I don't know what Bush stood for, except I'm a cool guy and Gore isn't, and that was our problem. We elected the guy because he was a little cooler than the other guy, and, I hope the next election, it isn't a problem of who goes to bed with their wife at 9:30 at night, or who knows how to tell a joke on a stage. But it's who had the sense of strength that comes from having read books, most of their life, tried to understand history"
May I point out that Gore actually won that election ? Maybe Matthews voted against Gore, but the majority of us voted for him. Those 5 votes cast by the Supreme Court revealed that our "democracy" doesn't honor the will of the people.

Maybe Chris Matthews voted for frat-boy Bush because of his own tendencies as a bully (his attitude toward intellectuals). I don't consider the Neo-Cons intellectuals - they're a bunch of idiots just like their "boy" George Witless Bush.

Breaking News: Maria Shriver Not Welcome in Santa Cruz

Maria Shriver made an appearance at the Watsonville Farmers Market today in Santa Cruz County. Among her scheduled activities was an interview with a reporter from the KSBW TV station, however, a protest made her so uncomfortable she skipped her interview and scurried away.

This just happened and isn't in the local news yet, but here's what the protesters had in mind:
MARIA SHRIVER in WATSONVILLE! : Indybay: "Bring signs and noisemakers! Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenneger's wife and ex-anchor for NBC's Dateline, will be visiting the Watsonville Farmers Market.

Shriver is a devout Catholic, and as such, has collaborated with Dr. Laura to bring the anti-gay message to different communities. She has also said she supports her husband, the Governator, in every decision he makes. This means that she also supports the Minutemen Project and dislikes Mexican undocumented immigrants. If so, WHAT THE HELL IS SHE DOING IN WATSONVILLE?!

Please help us make Maria Shriver feel unwelcome at this Friday's Watsonville Farmer's Market! "
Mission accomplished.

UPDATE: Here's a video of Maria Schriver's hurried escape from dangerous demonstrators (Yep, the spin is that she had to leave for security reasons). I did see a protestor wearing a Che Guevara-style beret, holding a sign saying, "We are not your photo op." I suppose that would spook a woman who is so insecure she married a bulked-up hulk like Schwarzenegger.

Cows with Guns

We have a really cool radio station nearby, KPIG, with real-live DJ's who play whatever they want, uncontrolled by a corporate manager. I don't recall their history with a lot of accuracy, but I do remember that when I first moved to Santa Cruz from Los Angeles (in 1976), their call letters were KFAT. That station was apparently sold, but the rebel DJs couldn't be controlled. They left and started another station. Our favorite DJ, Ramblin' Ror, plays a lot of really funny stuff and our favorite anti-Bush songs. The station is supported by advertising, but they also include a humorous fake ads between tunes. If you don't live in the central coast of California, click the link to KPIG and try them out.

I first heard the song, "Cows with Guns" on KPIG, but I hadn't seen the video until D.K. told me about it. I already loved the song, but the video makes it even better. (Thanks D.K.)

Spoiler alert! I love that in the end the chickens come to rescue the Cows. I'm hand-raising two Rhode Island Red hens and each has a unique personality.

Isis earned her name by having Eqyptian-style eye markings when she was a little chick. Those markings have disappeared now, but she still deserves her name because of her regal bearing. Until recently she carried a "don't touch me" attitude, but lately she has allowed us to "pet" her. The first time she allowed me to stroke her feathers, she hunkered down, spread her wings a little bit and rapidly stamped her feet. It was funny and and cute.

Her companion, Gabby, got her name because as a chick she "talked" more than Isis. Later that changed too. Gabby is a calm and friendly gal, who approaches me and squats to allow me to pet her. She never runs away.

The two hens have started laying eggs recently and their eggs are better than the store-bought free range eggs we had in the fridge. The Reds lay eggs with thicker shells and rich orange yolks (we feed them organic grains).

Brodie, our kitty who gets no respect from the other kitties, seems to be fascinated by the chickens. Initially when he tried to play with them, they didn't like his predator-style games of chase and when he tried to touch his nose to a beak, he got pecked, but he gets dissed all the time by the other cats and doesn't seem to mind. He likes to hang out with the chickens even though they mostly ignore him.

On the same topic (animals), I received the following from Suzanne Ayers and have been planning to share it:

Hunting animals over the internet. Where have I been? This is new to me.... and so sad How much of a lazy worthless piece of ^#$%^&^ do you have to be... to find this kind of "sport" any kind of "sport" at all. You might as well shoot an animal thats locked in a cage! O wait.. thats legal in Texas.

I'm wishing for cows with guns and chickens with helicopters. (I tried to upload pictures of our chickies and Brodie but Blogger just won't do it.)

Global Climate Change: Hell on Earth

Fire in southern California

Rising temperatures in the western states have resulted in a dramatic increase in wildfires. Since the 1970s, according to a new study, the average fire season has grown more than two months longer, and results in 6.5 times more land burned.

Due to an extended heat wave we're asked to limit our use of electricity during the day.

We're not surprised that George Witless Bush denies that human activity is causing global waming. I can see why, since these conditions would be an Enron energy trader's wet dream.
