Ben Lomond Woman Loves Animals Too Much

We recently saw a news report on our local TV station about an animal hoarder in Ben Lomond. I immediately suspected a neighbor, but couldn't be sure until yesterday when I saw official Animal Services vehicles, along with a cameraman from KRON-TV based in the San Francisco area, parked outside her house.

83 cats, 2 iguanas and 3 dogs, were found in the house along with 4 feet of feces. One Animal Services employee reported that he almost vomited because of the stench and had to wear a mask.

Yesterday they came back for the 50 cats they couldn't catch on the first day and they set humane traps for the cats, but the only animal they caught was a huge rat.

In the early evening an ambulance arrived at the home and took the occupant away. As they loaded her into the ambulance I could see that she was using an inhaler. I surmise that a combination of the stress and the toxic fumes in her home caused her illness - but this is just a guess.

I hadn'tt seen any activity at that location until 4 pm. when I noticed an Animal Services truck parked at the location again. I assume they are attempting to remove some more cats who are still in there breathing toxic air.

This situation is so sad for the hoarder, the animals in her care and the former owner of what was once a lovely house.

Ode to George W. Bu$h

I was listening to my favorite non-public radio station, KPIG, today when I heard a new version of John Prine's tune, Some People Ain't Human. I've highlighted the newer portion for you.

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
A few frozen pizzas
Some ice cubes with hair
A broken Popsicle
You don't want to go there

Some humans ain't human
Though they walk like we do
They live and they breathe
Just to turn the old screw
They screw you when you're sleeping
They try to screw you blind
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

You might go to church
And sit down in a pew
Those humans who ain't human
Could be sittin' right next to you
They talk about your family
They talk about your clothes
When they don't know their own ass
From their own elbows

Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony
Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony

Have you ever noticed
When you're feeling really good
There's always a pigeon
That'll come shit on your hood

Or you're feeling your freedom
And the world's off your back
Some cowboy from Texas
Starts his own war in Iraq

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

Lou Dobbs Is to the Right of Hitler

If you missed Michael Moore vs. Wolf Blitzer on CNN, go tp Michael Moore.com Moore pointed out that CNN and the rest of the MSM slant their news coverage to please their advertisers and pointed out that they'd failed to ask tough questions before Bush invaded Iraq and therefore failed the public. Moore insisted on appearing live so they couldn't edit out his comments. I sat transfixed watching a rare moment of truth being spoken to power until I was jolted out of my glee by the appearance of Lou Dobb's giant head whose giant mouth spewed forth with the following: "That Michael Moore is to the left of Hugo Chavez."

Dragging Dead Weight Toward the Future

More Republicans are withdrawing their support for the Iraq War:

In the last two weeks, three GOP senators — including one of the party's leading voices on foreign affairs and one of Bush's strongest allies — have urged the president to change course now so U.S. troops can start to withdraw.

And Friday, in interviews with the Los Angeles Times, two more Senate Republicans bluntly voiced disappointment with the president's approach and pressed for change.

"It should be clear to the president that there needs to be a new strategy," said Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. "Our policy in Iraq is drifting."

Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, who helped lead the charge earlier this year against Democratic efforts to oppose Bush's troop buildup, said: "We don't seem to be making a lot of progress."

It is vital to have "a clear blueprint for how we were going to draw down," he said.

Did Republicans just fall off the short bus? Are they finally realizing what the Democrats (maybe with the exception of Hillary Clinton who might have also been on that short bus) have been saying is true?

Conservatives are always the last ones to get a clue. They were dragged kicking and screaming into the civil rights era, they cling to the past and create a dead-weight for progressives who have to drag their sorry asses toward the future. This country is cursed with a preponderance of stupid, fundamentalist, backwards-thinking, narrow-minded people with no vision. It baffles the mind of a forward-thinking, rational person.

A Blue Cross executive wrote a set of talking points for his company to use after he saw Michael Moore's "Sicko". An employeee of the company leaked the entire memo which included the spin copied below.

There are 4 key areas of misperception cultivated by the movie that we should consider in any messaging strategy:

1. That the industry is all about HMO's. Moore cultivates this further in his interviews. The reality is that HMO's are a minority product and have been for some time.

2. The movie attacks insurers for a profit motive, but makes no distinction among for-profit and non-profit insurers, and in its execution places the Blue Plans together with the for-profit insurers.

3. All plans and employees - from leaders to service representatives - are painted as motivated by profit to deny claims, and only those with crisis of conscience have come forward to confess their sins.

4. Perhaps most damaging of all, Moore completely fails to address the most significant driver of health care costs - our own lifestyle choices - and seeks to focus attention and efforts on the alluring 'quick-fix' of universal health care. It has taken a generation of poor nutrition and exercise to get obesity and related health issues - and subsequent costs - to their current levels, and Moore's movie fails to acknowledge the causal relationship or need to change (he briefly touches the subject in a non-memorable way). Contrast this to the recent Health Care Symposium held in Harrisburg - where a panel of representatives from Government, Insurance, Hospitals, Business, Physicians, and even Lawyers agreed on one thing - that there was no quick fix and that Health and Wellness was the critical area of focus.

Talking point number 4 seems to coincide with Moore's charge that Blue Cross denied a claim from someone for being fat.

You can read the entire memo here

P.S. For some strange reason, I can't enter titles for my posts tonight. Blogger seems squirrelly.
